He was born on March 18, 1893 in Warsaw as the son of Jan and Emilia Barcikowska. There, in 1911, he graduated from the philological gymnasium "Szkoła Ziemi Mazowiecka", and then in 1916 from the Higher School of Agriculture in Warsaw, from which the Warsaw University of Life Sciences was established. It was there that he received his agricultural engineering diploma only in 1926. From the beginning of his university studies, he showed a special passion for horses and decided to specialize in this field. Together with my colleagues. Stanisław Schuch and Bronisław Walicki, he founded a hippological circle. In 1914, J. Grabowski completed an apprenticeship at the well-known Arabian stud of the Sanguszko princes in Sławuta.

When in 1932 the Horse Breeding Department was liquidated and only the Horse Breeding Department was established in its place, Eng. Grabowski was retired.
It was then that he took over the editorship of Rider and Breeder. Writing and publishing was nothing new to him, as he had already published several book proposals, including some prepared on the basis of his own research, as well as a number of articles in the agricultural press. Before he took over the publishing house and editorial office of Rider and Breeder, 28 of his articles were published there, some of them in several episodes. While editing this journal for seven years, he published 33 more of his articles in it.

Jan Grabowski died in Warsaw on March 9, 1986 and was buried at the Wilanów Cemetery.
