A horse breeder, a celebrity in the Żywiec region, shrouded in mystery. A man who devoted his entire life to "Polish Arabian horses".

He was born somewhere in Kresy in 1889.

Two silver lilies, one up and one down in a red field, are the old Polish nobility coat of arms - "Gozdawa", known already in the 14th century.

Józef Tyszkowski was an aristocrat by spirit, not by wealth: a man of reliable knowledge, constantly deepened by reading and experience, hard-working, decisive and, at the same time, capable of personal sacrifices in critical situations. He aroused respect among strangers just because of his stature - his impressive height (over six feet), powerful build, and a face with extremely masculine, "aquiline" features.

When World War II broke out, he managed the Arabian horse farm in Stare Siole, near Bobrówka.

The war epic of the Tyszkowski family and the Arabian horses they rescued led through Dębica, Brzesko, Kraków, Żywiec, Bazanowice (near Cieszyn), Mimoň (Czech Republic), Topoľčianky (Slovakia), from where they finally ended up in Nowy Dwór in Żywiecczyzna, where Józef Tyszkowski became the stud manager Arabian horses.

Horses bred by SK Nowy Dwór won the Polish Derby 7 times after the war.

The breeding showpiece of the stud in Nowy Dwór was:
stallion COMET oo (1953-1964) [Abu Afas – Carmen / Trypolis] – one of the 100 stars of Polish breeding and sport of the last century. This excellent sire was known primarily as the sire of the mare. His offspring were characterized not only by outstanding, modern beauty, but also by great racing abilities.

Józef Gozdawa-Tyszkowski died on December 2, 1974, aged 85. He rests with his wife and son at the cemetery in the village of Radziechowy near Żywiec.
