ROMAN PANKIEWICZ, a breeder from the Albigowa Stud of the BASK horse, which was hailed as the "revelation of America", in Kurier Arabski 19/20/1998, describes the line KUHAILAN HAIFI d.b. imported by BOGDAN ZIĘTARSKI:
"Kuhailan Haifi or.ar. it was purchased from the Bedouins by Bohdan Ziętarski in 1931 for Prince Sanguszko's Gumniska, which was the heir to the famous Sławuta. Already at the time of purchase, this stallion delighted even such an expert as B. Ziętarski with his beauty. Unfortunately, he died already in 1934, leaving a small number of offspring, but among them was the wonderful Ofir 1933 (out of Dziwa by Abu Mlech - who was considered the most valuable mare in the interwar period).
Ofir was widely used in PSK Janów Podlaski. Unfortunately, almost all of his offspring were taken to the USSR in 1939 or died during the hostilities. Only a couple of daughters and four sons remained, of whom Wyrwidąb 1938 was taken to Germany, Witeź II 1938 was taken to the USA (very meritorious for the local breeding) and Wielki Szlem 1938 and Witraż 1938, which were used for breeding in Poland.
The most distinguished in Polish breeding is Wielki Szlem 1938 (out of Elegantka by Bakszysz - one of the most valuable Polish mares). He gave birth to handsome and brave offspring. His son Czort 1949 (out of Forta by Kuhailan Abu Urkub - a very valuable mother) was a great runner himself and gave mostly such offspring. His son El Paso 1957 (out of Ellora by Witraż - a valuable sire) was loaned to the USA, where he won the title of US Champion. After returning to the country, he was used for breeding and in conjunction with the mare Etruria 1975 (Championka of Poland, Europe and the World) he gave the stallion Etogram 1981 - Polish Champion Stallion 1994, inbred in the 1942rd and XNUMXth generation to the very valuable Elza XNUMX, from which a number of stallions. His beauty and great pedigree predispose him to be a valuable sire.
The second son of El Paso used for breeding in Poland is Europeanjczyk 1982 (out of Europa by Bandos - Polish Champion Mare) Stallion Champion 1988, brave on the race track (he won the Derby, the Comparison and all the races in which he competed). His son Egzamin 1989 (out of Eza by Bandos out of Eufonia – one of the most valuable mares in Kurozwęki) is already used in breeding. He is not inferior in origin to his father. we will have to wait a few more years for his offspring.
Ofir's second son - Witraż 1938 (out of Makata by Fetysz - a very handsome mare) made a great contribution to breeding. He was more born than the Grand Slam and also produced more beautiful offspring, but not so brave on the racetrack. His very meritorious son was Celebes 1949 (from Canaria to Trypoli - a very valuable mare), which after being used in the circus was widely used in breeding.
One of Witraż's sons sold to the USA was Bask 1956 (out of Bałałajka by Amurath Sahib) called "the revelation of America". He won a number of US Championships, was a great sire, father of champions and champions, gave over 1000 offspring in the USA. One of his most valuable sons in the USA was Gdańsk 1968 (from Gdynia to Comet from Gwozdawa to Nabor) combining the blood of both these great sires.
In 1992, the mare sh Carmen 1984, in foal to Tabasco 1982, the grandson of Gdańsk, was purchased from the USA in 1993. This mare gave birth to the colt Cliinntonn in Poland in 1997. It is a horse of pure Polish pedigree. Shown in XNUMX in Warsaw at the Private Breeders' Ownership Show in Poland, he took XNUMXst place in his class, won the title of Senior Stallion Champion, and was also recognized by the audience as the Most Popular Horse of the Show. He deserves the title…”
