Born on February 25, 1870 in Ruszcza near Kraków.

Paweł Popiel was never a count and did not allow himself to be addressed that way. He managed the inherited goods of Kurozwęki, which he brought to a high level (especially forests).

He had three passions. He was intensively involved in the renewal of forests (1500 ha) that were significantly depleted due to repayments. Bringing them to high forest culture. The second passion is writing, which developed very intensively in the later years of his life. He published in "Sylwan" (a magazine for foresters), while in "Czas" and "Rolnik" he systematically published descriptions of his horseback travels around Poland.

The third, greatest passion of Paweł Popiel was horseback riding and hippology. He ran a small stud of thoroughbred and half-bred horses after his father. He was considered an authority in the field of horse pedigrees. He published books and articles devoted to studs, e.g. "Monograph of the Stud in Dzików" (Rider and Breeder, 1936).

He collaborated with foreign hippologic magazines - "Sanct george zeitung", "Die sportwelt", "Le jockey".

Thanks to this cooperation, he popularized Polish breeding and equestrianism. (…)
