The history of the first stage in the history of the Arabian horse auction in Janów Podlaski in the years 1970 - 1991 according to Marek Grzybowski.

Contemporary breeding of Arabian horses in Poland is the legacy of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which politically and culturally bordered the Orient, and the enormous magnate fortunes enabled the import of the finest stallions and mares.

This thought was the guiding idea for me to promote both the breeding and the Janów auction, which I gave the title "Polish Prestige" at some point.

In order to invite people from the richest circles of this world to the gray and poor country behind the Iron Curtain, it was necessary to convince them that the product offered was second to none, and what's more - it could only be created in Poland thanks to the huge expenditures and uninterrupted work of many generations of Polish breeders .

SOME HISTORICAL REFLECTIONS

The export of Arabian horses is a business in Poland almost as old as breeding. The first recorded transaction took place in 1800, when the Great Hetman of the Crown, Count Seweryn Rzewuski, sold the leading stallion of his breeding to the East Prussian Weedern herd. The proud magnate did not hesitate to give his horse his own name, which can be considered an excellent promotional move. A good name usually favors a horse's career, I dedicate this thought to the modern breeders of Relax, Fartów, Gryp and Floder. The stallion Rzewuski did not bring shame to his surname, his daughters were the backbone of the breeding in Weedern.

When today we are trying to win Middle Eastern markets for our breeding, let us remember that already in 1864 the Turkish sultan bought two stallions from the Branicki family in Biała Cerkiew: Inak and Jarzmo, and a group of 90 mares for his royal stud in Istanbul. The power of the Branicki breeding is evidenced by the fact that during 53 years (1818-1870) they sold 2009 horses and gave away 1231 horses as gifts, which was meticulously recorded in their studbooks. Could the contemporary Polish Arabian horse, valued everywhere in the world but almost unknown in its own country, not be an excellent Polish state gift, winning over crowned heads in Arab countries, opening contacts and exporting various Polish products?

While studying in high school, he also spends every free moment racing. However, all this was not enough to join the group of competitors in real races. At that time, only full-time employees of the State Horse Racing Tracks were entitled to such a right. He could use it only after his high school final exams (1951), when he was not admitted to zootechnics because of his landed origin, and he found employment in Stanisław Pasternak's racing stable.

The Horse Stud in Janów Podlaski is inextricably associated with the figure of its long-time director, who became a legend during his lifetime.

______________________________________________________________

He was born in Vienna on April 2, 1915.

Andrzej Krzyształowicz has been involved in agriculture since childhood thanks to his father, who at that time administered the Dzieduszycki estate in Zarzecze.

In 1923, the family moved to Łańcut, where Kazimierz Krzyształowicz became the general director of the estates of Count Alfred Potocki.

The numerous estates of the count also included Albigowa with a stud of Thoroughbred horses. There, under the supervision of the then manager of the stud, Bolesław Orłoś, the young man aroused his interest in horse breeding and horse riding. It was also there that he saw the first Arabian horse, namely the stallion Kafifana imported from Egypt. This horse was the owner's mascot and a source of pride and was presented to the count's numerous guests visiting the stud. Perhaps this first contact with an Arabian horse decided about the fate of the young man.

However, after graduating from high school in 1933 in Lviv, Andrzej Krzyształowicz decided to devote himself to aviation, which was very fashionable among young people at that time, and submitted documents to the school in Dęblin.

These plans were thwarted by minor health problems and eventually it was necessary to decide on a different profession. In this situation, the choice fell on the field closest to him since childhood, i.e. agriculture.

Breeder: Albigowa Horse Stud

Stained Glass – Balalaika / Amurath Sahib

Bask, born in 1956 at the Albigowa Stud, is one of the most famous Polish thoroughbreds in the world. Sold in 1961 to Lasma Arabians Stud (USA), there he created "a new standard of the Arabian breed". Today, 90% of purebred horses born in the USA have Bask blood in their pedigree.

Mr. Roman Pankiewicz, a breeder in the Albigowa Stud in the 50s, emphasized that he was not the breeder of Bask, but God Himself.

Bask came from aristocratic Arab families. His father Witraż was the best representative of the Kuhailan Haifi family (Witeź II, Wielki Szlem, Wyrwidąb). Mother Bałałajka gave birth to the most beautiful mare in Polish post-war breeding - Bandola, called Królowa Janowa.

It was Bask who contributed to the creation of the world-famous term "pure polish" in Arabian horse breeding - pure Polish, which is the best showcase of a horse bred in Poland or coming from Polish parents.

He passed away on July 24.07.1979, XNUMX, but lives on in the successes of his offspring. The history of this stallion is absolutely extraordinary and still living legend
